Everything is Kung Fu: Second Trailer for "The Karate Kid" Remake

The second trailer for the upcoming remake "The Karate Kid" is now online. The remake of the 1984 classic of the same name is directed by Harald Zwart and stars Jackie Chan, Jaden Smith and Taraji P. Henson.

Official Synopsis:
12-year-old Dre Parker (Jaden Smith) could've been the most popular kid in Detroit, but his mother's (Taraji P. Henson) latest career move has landed him in China. Dre immediately falls for his classmate Mei Ying - and the feeling is mutual - but cultural differences make such a friendship impossible. Even worse, Dre's feelings make an enemy of the class bully, Cheng. In the land of kung fu, Dre knows only a little karate, and Cheng puts the "karate kid" on the floor with ease. With no friends on the strange land, Dre has nowhere to turn but to the maintenance man Mr. Han (Jackie Chan), who is secretly a kung fu master. As Han teaches Dre that kung fu is not about punches and parries, but maturity and calm, Dre realises that facing down the bullies will be the fight of his life.

"The Karate Kid" is scheduled for release in the US on June 11, 2010.

Second Red Band Trailer For "Kick-Ass"

The second red band trailer for the upcoming superhero film "Kick-Ass" has been released. It is almost similar to the previous trailer and is filled with a lot or cursing... just the way I like it.

"Kick-Ass" is based on the comic-book of the same name by Mark Millar and John Romita, Jr. The film tells the story of average teenager Dave Lizewski, who decides to take his obsession with comic-books as inspiration to become a real-life superhero. As any good superhero would, he chooses a new name (Kick-Ass), assembles a suit and mask to wear, and gets to work fighting crime. There's only one problem: He has absolutely no superpowers.

His life is forever changed as he inspires a subculture of copy cats, meets up with a pair of crazed vigilantes (an 11 year-old sword-wielding dynamo, Hit Girl and her father, Big Daddy) and forges a friendship with another fledgling superhero, Red Mist.

"Kick-Ass" is directed by Matthew Vaughn and stars Nicolas Cage, Lyndsy Fonseca, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Mark Strong, Aaron Johnson and Chloe Moretz. The film is scheduled for release in the US on April 16, 2010.

Trailer For "The Legend Is Born: Ip Man"

I really have no idea they are making a prequel to Wilson Yip's "Ip Man" (2008) until I came across the trailer for "The Legend Is Born: Ip Man" a few days ago. The prequel is directed by Herman Yau and stars To Yu-Hang, Sammo Hung, Yuen Biao, Ip Chun and Fan Siu-wong.

"The Legend Is Born: Ip Man" focuses on the early life of Ip Man, before the events depicted in Wilson Yip's "Ip Man". The film centers on his romantic relationships while under the tutelage of 3 Wing Chun masters - Chan Wah-shun, Ng Chung-sok and Leung Bik.

First-time actor To Yu-hang portrays the young Ip Man. He has trained in Wing Chun for 6 years and received help from Donnie Yen on how to approach the character. Likewise, Sammo Hung gave him advice on how to act without over exaggeration by presenting him a copy of Akira Kurosawa’s classic "Sugata Sanshiro".

Sammo Hung will portray Chan Wah-shun, Ip Man’s first Wing Chun master while Yuen Biao will portray Chan Wah-shun's second eldest disciple and also Ip Man's mentor, Ng Chung-sok.

The film also features Ip Man's eldest son in real life, Ip Chun. He will play Leung Bik, his father's third Wing Chun master. Although he will be turning 86 this year, he reportedly has a few action scenes in the film. However, he found it really tedious and vows to never get involved in acting again.

As you can witness from the trailer above, the film’s fight choreography employs a high level of realism. Due to this, injuries on set were common. Yuen Biao, who goes up against Fan Siu-wong and Sammo Hung, suffered a rib injury severe enough he had to take time off from the shoot to recuperate. Fan Siu-wong got slashed on the head by Bernice Liu's katana on the first day she arrived, requiring 3 stitches.

"The Legend Is Born: Ip Man" will be released in Hong Kong sometime this year.
