However, speaking to NPR's Scott Simon, Howard has this to say about the recast:
"It was the surprise of a lifetime. There was no explanation. [The contract] just…up and vanished. I read something in the trades implicating that it was about money or something, but apparently the contracts that we write and sign aren’t worth the paper that they’re printed on, sometimes. Promises aren’t kept, and good faith negotiations aren’t always held up."
Hmm... the plot thickens. All this drama surrounding the entire mess smells fishy. Who should we believe? I guess we'll have to wait for further development to the story and decide for ourselves.
I have nothing against Cheadle, in fact I think he is a fine actor. But having a different actor playing Jim Rhodes/War Machine in the sequel is just not the same. Remember the scene in "Iron Man" where Howard's character looks at a silver armor and says "Next time, baby"? Comic book geeks everywhere went nuts over this scene. The scene loses its fun if a different person wears the silver armor "next time".
